Distance Learning | Technology | Resources | Contacts Distance Learning and TechnologyTechnical Knowledge Expected You don't have to be a technology wizard to take an online course; however, you must be comfortable with your system and be willing to deal with any problems that may arise. To do well in an online course, you should be familiar with the following:
Lack of technical knowledge can greatly interfere with your learning a new subject. If you do not have the above skills, consider taking a computer course prior to enrolling in an online course. Minimum Technical Requirements Listed below are the minimum technical requirements you will need on your home computer to take an online class:
Blackboard Your online classes are taught through KCTCS using Blackboard. You must log onto Blackboard using the same username and password that you use to access your KCTCS email and PeopleSoft accounts. All KCTCS communication concerning online courses will occur through the KCTCS email account. To facilitate communication among the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, its colleges and students, each student, both on-line and on-campus, receive a KCTCS email address. The username will be assigned to each student by KCTCS and students create their password.
Remember: Email is an integral part of the distance learning process. You are responsible for checking your student email regularly. Be aware that some online instructors will communicate with you through your campus email while others may require that all class-related communication take place within the Blackboard course site. It is your responsibility to use the communication method required by your professor.
